Great Article Explains Reasons Behind Growth of Disability Program

Finally, someone offers a reasonable explanation for why the Social Security Disability program is growing.  In large part its due to the population boom from the aging baby boomer generation, and also in part due to rapidly increasing amounts of women in the workplace.

Lately, there have been some trying to point fingers at the disability program as a source of goverment waste and inefficiency just because the ranks of the disabled are quickly growing.  This article offers a reasonable explanation of why the number of disabled is rising.

Some are trying to include the disability program in the broader disucussion of government waste.  Because of that the disability program is being politicized.  Conservative news sources are publishing articles with a very negative slant.

We should not allow this kind of attack on such a basic safety net.  As the article above shows, there are reasons other than fraud or goverment inefficiency to explain why the disability program is growing.  People should support disabled Americans right to have this basic safety net maintained, and we should all send word to our elected officials to not include the disability program in any budget cuts.
